NU: ‘No genocide but horizontal conflict triggered by PKI itself’

“There was no what it’s called genocide against the PKI by certain groups. What happenned was horizontal conflict triggered by the PKI itself, especially when there was chaos and power vacuum. Neither single actor nor a single victim,” said Deputy Chairman of the NU KH As’ad Said Ali, Vice Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) at the launch of the white paper Benturan NU-PKI 1948-1965 (Conflicts of NU-PKI 1948-1965), Monday, 9/12.

“At that times, all became victims. The book also reveals details of casualties among NU members who were also not a few on the tragic events of Madiun in 1948 to G-30S-PKI in 1965. Unfortunately, it was never recorded by Western researchers.”

“The book Benturan NU-PKI 1948-1965 also revealed the presence of dramatization number of casualties in the existing historical record. From the tens of thousands or tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands. In fact, Western researchers assumed number of more victims.”
